Know Your Status

Posted on June 27, 2012 By Brooke Abbott

Today is National Get Tested Day! So before you go in for the night tonight, please stop by a testing place and get tested! There are a bunch of FREE AIDS testing places around you!! Find one!! Know your status! AIDS is very much still present in our lives and it is still killing folks. There are 479,161 people living with AIDS in the United States. Those are 479 thousand people who KNOW they have AIDS. There are 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States. Now I didn’t say those were 1.2 million people who KNOW they have HIV…those are just folks living with it diagnosed and undiagnosed. Of those 42.6% are Black Americans. And ladies homosexual transmission rate is low… it seems that more women are contracting the disease. In fact Black women are in the highest percent of persons likely to contract the disease. That is extremely scary! We spent the 80’s and early 90’s making sure that sex was safe for everyone…we should never stop! The best way to express your love is to do it in a responsible safe way!
