Now like most of you, we did extensive research and study of what products are the best for babies to bathe in, drink from and do laundry in. My son has sensitive skin so, we spent the extra bucks to buy Aveeno & Burt’s Bees baby products. That including their lotions, shampoos & oils. From our research and talking to other parents and our pediatrician, we thought we were doing the right thing…until today!
The Bump.com is reporting that a test was done on baby wash/shampoo products and some came up positive for THC. THC is the halucinogen entity in Marijuana. How and why there is THC in a baby product I don’t know. They are saying that it doesn’t actually have marijuana in it, but it’s a combination of the ingredients that can produce a positive drug test. Hmm…okay. So it doesn’t have the drug, but if you were to drug test your baby they can text positive for the drug? WOW! Well one of my favorite washes & shampoos, Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo was testing and tested positive. Kinda thinking of moving back over to the Burt’s Bees or California Baby Wash & Shampoo.
See the article : Whoa! Some Baby Shampoos and Washes Test Positive for Marijuana.
I’m extremely concerned as I am sure many parents are. What is the next step for us. Do I need to be worried? We’ve been using Johnson’s since he was born the oils bath soap bubble bath lotion everything.
Do I need to make a drs appt? So many questions and all the articles I’ve read just give what happened and how nothing about the aftermaths
Hi Radhika,
No I don’t think doctor’s appointments are necessary. There are other great baby products that you can use such as Boudreax’s Butt Paste, Burt’s Bees, California Baby, & Method. I have used all of these products and they work great! They can be purchased at Target or on Diapers.com (who usually have them on sale). I wouldn’t freak out too bad because it isn’t being totally ingested into their blood stream, it just seems to be in their skin and can give a positive test. But then again eating a grip of poppy seeds can also give a positive test. After this bottle of Aveeno is used up I will probably go back to Burt’s Bees or California Baby or Method to be honest. As far as baby oil is concerned, Burt’s Bees has a GREAT baby oil that I’ve even used on myself. I’ve also used a little olive oil mixed in with my baby’s lotion. My mom used that on us and my skin is great. And if you can’t find a lotion you like try sensitive skin or non scented Lubriderm or Keri lotion. They work great!! Hope this helps!!
